A Risen Life
Redeemed 2. Renewed
Liberating Gift New Focus
Ongoing Empowerment New Self
Apostle Paul’s letter in Colossians 3:1-17. It is a powerful message, a profound declaration to live what Paul calls “A Risen Life”—a life that is both Redeemed and Renewed through our faith in our triune God the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and Holy Spirit the Sustainer.
Paul wrote to the church in Colossae, a community that, much like ours, faced various challenges, distractions, and pressures. He reminded them, and he reminds us, of a glorious truth: because of what Jesus did on the cross at Calvary, we have been raised with Christ! This is not just some abstract theological idea; it is the very foundation for a brand-new way of living—the source of truly a risen life.
in Verse 14, Paul says, “And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” We are brothers and sisters in Christ, spreading His Gospel, breaking down barriers and fostering unity among believers. Love is the supreme virtue, the thread that weaves all the other virtues together into a beautiful quilt. Love is the unifying force, the fulfillment of God’s law, and the clearest hallmark of a true disciple of Jesus Christ.
Paul gives us practical guidance on how A Risen Life: Redeemed by God’s Liberating Gift & Ongoing Empowerment and Renewed to a New Focus & New Self is sustained and expressed:
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts“
“Be thankful“
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly“
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in thename of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
Summary
Friends, Colossians 3:1-17 is not just a list of rules; it is a vibrant description for faithful believers who have truly encountered Christ. It describes A Risen Life: Redeemed and Renewed.
You have been Redeemed.
Have you accepted God’s Liberating Gift and received the Ongoing Empowerment of the Holy Spirit?
You have been Renewed.
Have you set a New Focus on things above and truly put on a New Self?
We are called to live A Risen Life.
By the power of the Holy Spirit, let us clothe ourselves with Christ-like virtues of holiness bound together by love.
May the peace of Christ rule in our hearts, and His word dwell richly within us, transforming everything we do, whether in word or deed, to honor and glorify God.
